The school says it has plans to make arrangements for students to mourn.

“Our hearts are heavy with this devastating news,” said an email, sent by Middleton High School Principal Peg Shoemaker. “We know the only way to endure this ordeal is to be together.”

Student staff are available to students to provide grief counseling to all those in need of support, a specific district.

The district, like Medical Examiner, has not yet identified the students killed.

An e-mail sent to parents also indicated that the Home events were scheduled to begin Monday, but officials said staff would meet with students Sunday evening to discuss what the situation should be like.

“These are very difficult issues for all of us at MHS and our entire high school team is here to support all students,” said the email. “Our deepest condolences go out to all the victims of this tragedy.”

Speaking to News 3 Now on Sunday afternoon, Sgt. John Matz and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said it was too early to say if anyone beat three high school students would be charged. Matz also said it was too early to say whether alcohol or running was a factor.

“The situation is deplorable,” Matz said. “I hope for peace for the people, family and friends because it is sad all the way.”

West Mineral Point Road was closed for about seven hours after the accident.
