According to local news reports, officials arrested an American Airlines passenger who opened an emergency door and stepped onto the wing of a plane that landed at Miami International Airport (MIA).
The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) said the passenger was walking on the wing of the plane around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night when the plane was taxiing, CBS 4 Miami reported. The plane arrived from Cali, Colombia, police said.
Police said the passenger jumped off the wing and was arrested when officers arrived, WPLG Local 10 News reported. Authorities informed the point of sale that the incident did not cause any delays and that the remaining passengers could get off the plane.
The suspect’s name has not been released, according to CBS 4 Miami.
In a statement, American Airlines confirmed that a passenger aboard Flight 920 serviced by Cali exited the aircraft through the emergency exit.
“The customer was immediately arrested by law enforcement agencies. We thank our team members and law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and quick action, ”said the airline.
The US Customs and Border Protection in Miami told Insider that it was not involved in the arrest.
The Miami-Dade Police Department and Miami International Airport did not immediately respond to insiders’ requests for comment on the story.
