A police officer was detained at the scene.
A New York City police officer is in custody after he shot two women, killing one, at a house in Brooklyn.
The officer, who was off duty at the time, allegedly shot all the women – one of them his girlfriend – when they returned to the house where the police officer’s girlfriend lived.
Police said an off-duty police officer shot a 24-year-old woman in the chest, “probably more than once,” at a Bensonhurt home. The man, Jamie Liang, was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and later pronounced dead, police said.
A woman, 23, who was in a romantic relationship with the officer, was shot in the head and expected to live, police said.
He is believed to be a 32-year-old police officer in the 72nd District, which includes Park Slope and Sunset Park in Brooklyn.
This officer served the NYPD for 5 1/2 years. Police said he was at a local hospital for a checkup.
“We believe we are a family in nature. We thank all three parties who knew each other,” Assistant Chief Michael Kemper, chief of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, said at a press conference Wednesday evening.
“We believe they had a close relationship,” he said of the elder and the 23-year-old woman.
A police officer remained at the scene and told police he had shot two women, according to police.
Police said they were still investigating, but recovered the gun at the scene and “there’s a very good chance his weapon of operation,” Kemper said.
“The whole incident is horrible, but these police officers have made a name for themselves, they are smart, and this is what the NYPD police do every day,” Kemper said. “Is this an event they’d like to come up with? No.
