Kim Yo Jong: A sister of a North Korean leader has been promoted to president

The statement – published in the North Korean KCNA news agency – said Kim Yo Jong has become a member of the State Affairs Commission (SAC), which governs the country led by his younger brother.
Kim Yo Jong has already become one of the most important political figures and an important adviser to his younger brother, but a position at SAC is the highest official position he has ever held.

Seven others were elevated by her side as part of the shake-SAC, even though Kim Yo Jong was the only woman. Nine members have resigned or been removed from office, including 82-year-old Pak Pong Ju, a wealthy businessman Kim Jong Un 10 years ago.

Ri Pyong Chol, a North Korean pilot program planner and military commander under Kim Jong Un, has been demoted. His place was occupied by army chief Pak Jong Chon, who has been overseeing the development of new national weapons.
Earlier this week, Pak looked at a test of what North has said is the first hypertic missile, which – if true – has the potential to be one of the fastest and most obvious weapons in the world, and could be a nuclear war, experts say.

Why is the promotion of Kim Yo Jong important?

Kim Yo Jong’s promotion to the world’s largest producers’ commission seems to legitimize his role in North Korea’s leadership.
She believes in being one of her strong and loyal siblings. Last year, South Korea’s National Intelligence Service considered him to be the “de facto second president” of the country – but his official position remained unclear.
As North Korea’s broadcasting leader, Kim Yo Jong was at the forefront of the country’s ambassadors at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea where he met with South Korean President Moon Jae-In. He was credited with helping lay the groundwork for the first meeting between the Moon and his brother, who was sitting at a table, and was on Kim Jong Un’s side in Singapore when he met the country’s president, Donald Trump.

In 2020, the South Korean spy agency informed lawmakers that they had been appointed to maintain relations with South and the United States.

Recently, as deputy director of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, he spoke in public about the Korean relations, the new administration of Biden, and defended North Korean weapons.
The turmoil in Korea sees Kim Jong Un's sister come out stronger than ever

Last week, Kim Yo Jong called on the South to “make a real decision” if it really needs to be reconciled and promoted in Korean relations, including another conference. They also warned the US and South Korea to abandon their “aggressive” policy against North Korea, before talks resumed on a South Korean President’s request for an end to the North-South war.

But Kim Yo Jong’s rise to the top has not been good.

Earlier this year, he was removed as a senior member from the powerful North Korean Politburo and removed from “first deputy department” to “deputy prime minister.”

Analysts at the time said his apparent decline could be related to Kim Jong Un’s focus on reforming the politburo to increase economic efficiency. Some speculated that he may have taken the heat of the relationship between North Korea last summer, when he ordered North Korean troops to blow up a $ 8 million free office in Kaesong to protest Pyongyang and Seoul.

CNN’s Joshua Berlinger made the announcement.
