McConnell closes Schumer’s bid to raise the debt ceiling by a majority vote

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Blocked Senate Majority President Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., in his bid to pass the GOP fribbuster and raise the debt on the ring with a majority vote Tuesday afternoon.

Schumer asked the Senate to agree to reduce the voting limit to 50 votes on a stand-alone loan. McConnell objected to Schumer’s request, crushing power by forcing Democratic leaders to find another way to raise the bar without Republican support.

“The Democratic leader knew that this request would fail,” McConnell said at a Senate level. “There is no chance for the Republican Conference to get out of our way to help Democrats save their time and energy to start protesting through politicians as soon as possible.”
