HAWTHORNE, Calif. (AP) – A man died after trying to hit people on the road with his trucks, crashed into a building and was later evacuated by a mob in Southern California, authorities said.
The man was told to leave business in Hawthorne on Saturday morning and then got into an argument with someone walking to his truck, said Lt. Hugo Reynaga of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The man then deliberately drove the truck on the road, trying to hit a group of players before his truck climbed a tree, the Daily Breeze reported.
When paramedics tried to take the man out of the driver’s seat, he ran again and hit the corner of a nearby building, Reynaga said.
Aides rescued the driver of the truck and continued to fight him when Hawthorne police arrived, Deputy Sheriff Grace Medrano said.
The driver suffered from trauma-force, said Medrano. He died at this place.
The incident was filmed on video, but the video was vivid and a fight took place behind the truck a bit on the scene, Reynaga said.
“You could see there was a fight going on, but you couldn’t tell who was doing it,” he told the newspaper.
Most of the people involved in the war were interrogated by detectives and then released, awaiting the outcome of the corpse.
Detectives were awaiting the results of the autopsy to see if the man might have suffered a medical condition during the war that later killed him, Reynaga said, adding that the accident “was not a mistake.”
The driver was only known as a man in his forties.
