A man arrested in a Molotov cocktail attack on Austin Dems’ HQ

A man seen on video watching wearing an American bandana flag when he threw a Molotov cocktail at the Democratic Party’s office in Austin remained in custody Saturday, according to prison records.

Ryan Faircloth, 30, was arrested Friday and faces charges of arson and attempted arson, according to court documents. The documents did not say whether Faircloth had a lawyer anyway.

No one was at the Travis County Democratic Party headquarters when he was attacked around 2 a.m. Wednesday and only a small piece of paper caught fire, officials said. The fire was quickly extinguished by the staff of a neighboring business.

Investigators found several tapes after releasing a surveillance video, as a lawsuit was filed in court by FBI task force officer Ryan Metcalf. One of the tips led to Faircloth’s social media.

Information obtained on the air and other evidence led the fire detectives and the FBI to arrest Faircloth who, when questioned, admitted that he had built the device and left it in the building, according to the report.

“He explained using a bottle of wine, gasoline, and socks to build the product. He agreed knowing that the gasoline could burn. He went on to emphasize his take on the events,” the complaint states.
